This surprises a lot of applicants, so it is worth being plain about it. University of Kerala does not print a separate narrative transcript the way many universities abroad do. An official University of Kerala transcript is a set of copies of your semester-wise mark sheets, together with your provisional or degree certificate, each attested and stamped by the Controller of Examinations, then sealed in an envelope.
Each sheet carries the university stamp and the attestation of the examination wing. That attestation is what gives the copy its legal standing. The envelope is then sealed and signed across the back flap, which is the seal WES and other evaluation bodies check.
So if a set of stamped mark sheets and a certificate copy arrives rather than a single printed record, nothing has gone wrong — that is the correct and complete document. It is the format WES, IQAS, ICES, CES, ECE and universities abroad expect from Indian institutions.
Kerala has several state universities with similar names, and applying to the wrong one is a common, avoidable delay. The University of Kerala is not the same institution as the Kerala University of Health Sciences or the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, even though graduates often refer to all of them loosely as “Kerala University.”

University of Kerala operates across several campuses, with the Senate House at Palayam as the administrative headquarters and Kariavattom as the main academic campus. For transcripts this distinction does not matter: examination records are held centrally and the transcript is issued by the Controller of Examinations for the whole university, whichever campus or affiliated college you attended. You do not need to approach your old college or campus separately.
Several websites advertise instant PDF or email transcripts for University of Kerala. As of July 2026 the official University of Kerala transcript is a sealed physical document stamped and signed by the Controller of Examinations; the university does not run a self-service electronic PDF transcript that credential bodies accept in place of the sealed envelope.
Where an evaluation body writes to the university to confirm your record directly, the examination wing can respond to that verification correspondence. That supplements the sealed envelope; it does not replace it. If a provider offers you a same day PDF transcript from University of Kerala, ask them which office issues it and whether your target evaluation body will accept it.
Two things cause most of the difficulty: locating older records against a register number, and getting the sealed envelope sent directly to the evaluation body rather than to yourself.

FACTS does not require your original documents in most cases. Clear scanned colour copies of your mark sheets and degree or provisional certificate are usually sufficient for us to process your application.

University of Kerala has been examining students since 1937, first as the University of Travancore. Recent results sit in digital systems. Older results sit in bound examination records, and retrieving them means an officer locating the correct volume and verifying your marks by hand against your register number.
This is the single largest variable in how long a transcript takes. A recent graduate with a complete set of mark sheets is the fastest case. What makes an old file harder: faded mark sheets where the register number is illegible; multiple register numbers from repeated or supplementary attempts; course or college names that have since changed; and colleges that have closed or moved to another university. None of these prevent issuance, but all of them need flagging at the start rather than discovering midway.
Nearly all of these bodies share one requirement: the sealed envelope must travel from the university to them without passing through your hands. Where they differ is in the paperwork that accompanies it.
WES requires marks sheets issued and attested by the institution that conducted the examinations, sent directly to WES in a sealed envelope signed or stamped across the back flap by the authenticating officer. WES does not accept documents forwarded by colleges, students or agents, and has applied this rule without exception to applications received on or after 1 December 2018. Generate your WES reference number before dispatch, because the envelope cannot be matched to your file without it.
The Canadian assessment bodies apply the same sealed envelope principle with minor differences in the covering documentation and in how the reference number is quoted. This route is heavily used by University of Kerala graduates migrating to Canada.
Educational Credential Evaluators requires the sealed envelope directly from the university. NCEES, for engineering licensure, frequently asks for course by course records and syllabus documentation, which is a separate request to the university.
German applications usually require APS certification, and ZAB verification where recognition of the degree itself is in question. Both involve the university responding to correspondence.
ECCTIS for the United Kingdom and NZQA for New Zealand run their own verification correspondence with the university. Dataflow is the usual route for Gulf employment and professional licensing, which applies to many University of Kerala graduates working in the Gulf.
Opening the sealed envelope to check its contents invalidates it for every evaluation body without exception. If you want to know what is inside, ask for a scanned copy at the time of issuance, not by opening the seal.

You do not need to be in Thiruvananthapuram, and you do not usually need to send original documents anywhere. Send clear scans of all mark sheets and your degree or provisional certificate, your register number and year of passing, a copy of your passport, a signed authorisation letter which we provide as a template, and your evaluation body reference number if the envelope is going directly to WES or similar.
The temptation that catches overseas applicants is having the sealed envelope couriered to your home address. If your destination is WES or another evaluation body, do not do this. It must arrive directly from the university, so having it sent to you abroad and posting it on means paying for the whole process twice.
Inside the university, files stall for a few reasons: a discrepancy where a name, subject or mark does not match the university record; archive retrieval where an older result has to be traced; signatory availability, since envelopes cannot be sealed without the authorised officer; and examination season, when the wing prioritises live examination work.
