Banaras Hindu University (BHU) was founded in 1916 by Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya under the BHU Act 1915, with support from Dr. Annie Besant, and is located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. BHU offers programmes across arts, science, engineering (through IIT BHU), medicine, agriculture (ranked 4th by NIRF 2025), law, education, performing arts, and Sanskrit studies. The university has constituent colleges including Mahila Mahavidyalaya and a South Campus at Barkachha, Mirzapur. All transcripts for BHU-conferred degrees are issued by the Office of the Controller of Examinations in Varanasi, regardless of which college or campus the student attended.

BHU accepts transcript applications online through its examination portal at bhuonline.in. Applications are submitted under the Regular Examinations section and processed by the Controller of Examinations office. Completed transcripts can be collected from Counter No. 11 (Certificate Counter) after 15 working days of applying, within 6 months. The university also supports online dispatch — applicants can provide the receiving institution's email address in the application form for electronic issuance.
The official BHU transcript fee is ₹220 plus ₹50 per copy, payable at the Finance Office fee counter (10:45 AM to 1:30 PM and 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM). Other official fees include: Migration Certificate ₹200, Duplicate Marksheet ₹100–₹150, Degree in absentia ₹100, Duplicate Degree ₹200, and Document Verification ₹250. FACTS service charges are separate and confirmed by email before work begins.
BHU's Controller of Examinations operates 12 counters, each handling specific faculties and document types. Counter No. 11 (the Certificate Counter) handles all transcript, migration certificate, degree, document verification and duplicate requests. The counter is staffed from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM and 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM on working days. BHU also participates in DigiLocker and the National Academic Depository (NAD), with marksheets from 2019–2021 published on the platform.
Important: IIT BHU is a separate institution. If you graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), your transcript must come from IIT BHU's own administration, not from BHU's Controller of Examinations. FACTS can assist with both — please specify IIT BHU or BHU when you apply.

FACTS coordinates with BHU’s Controller of Examinations to obtain your consolidated marksheet transcript on official university letterhead, sealed and stamped. BHU transcripts are processed through Counter No. 11 at the Controller of Examinations office in Varanasi. A sealed transcript is what WES, IQAS, ECE, CES and foreign universities require — an envelope you seal yourself is rejected.
WES generally requires transcripts to arrive from the issuing university or an authorised representative, in a sealed envelope — not from the applicant. FACTS coordinates with BHU to have your transcript sealed and dispatched directly to WES with your reference number, which is the step most applicants find difficult to manage on their own.
An MOI letter from BHU confirms your programme was taught in English. Some universities abroad, immigration authorities and credential evaluators may accept it as supporting evidence of English proficiency — acceptance policies vary by institution. It is a separate document from the transcript and FACTS can coordinate both together.
Employers, background-check firms and immigration authorities verify degrees directly with BHU. The official verification fee is ₹250. FACTS coordinates the BHU verification request end to end, so the confirmation reaches the verifying body from the university rather than from you.
A genuineness certificate is Banaras Hindu University confirming in writing, under its seal, that your academic records are authentic. It is frequently required alongside a transcript for immigration and professional registration, particularly in the Gulf.
A migration certificate from BHU releases you to enrol at another university or board. The official BHU fee is ₹200. Note: for regular students, a Transfer Certificate from the college Principal or Faculty Dean is required before the migration certificate can be issued.
If your BHU marksheet or degree certificate is lost or damaged, the university can issue a duplicate. BHU charges ₹100 for current-exam duplicates and ₹150 for earlier exams. Older records take longer to retrieve. Send us your roll number, enrolment number and year of passing and we will tell you what is possible.
Some evaluators and employers ask for the convocation (original degree) certificate rather than a provisional one. If you never collected yours from Banaras Hindu University, or it was never issued, we can obtain it.
ECCTIS, formerly UK NARIC, verifies Indian qualifications for UK visas, employers and universities. It requires documents direct from Banaras Hindu University. We prepare and submit the Banaras Hindu University verification so it is not returned for incomplete documentation.
ZAB is Germany’s Central Office for Foreign Education, and its Statement of Comparability is required for German university admission and many work visas. ZAB verifies directly with Banaras Hindu University. We handle that correspondence.

You typically need: photocopies of all semester/year marksheets, your degree or provisional certificate, a valid ID proof (Aadhaar card or passport), your examination roll number, and your university enrolment number. For WES or IQAS applications, include your reference number. FACTS provides an authorisation letter on your behalf.
BHU participates in DigiLocker and the National Academic Depository (NAD), with marksheets from 2019–2021 published on the platform. For electronic dispatch, the bhuonline.in application form allows applicants to enter the receiving institution’s email address for online issuance. However, most credential evaluation agencies still require physically sealed transcripts.
