The Ultimate Guide To Getting A WES Evaluation

The Ultimate Guide To Getting A WES Evaluation

If you are an academic or a professional looking for credential evaluation from WES (World Education Services), you’ve come to the right place.

In this guide, we explain everything you need to know about WES and how it operates, helping you get your evaluation efficiently. Let's dive into the basics!

What is WES?

WES Logo

World Education Services (WES) is a non-profit organization that evaluates international academic credentials for students and professionals planning to study or work in the United States or Canada. WES processes over 100,000 evaluations each year, making it the largest credential evaluator in North America.

In addition to transcript evaluation, WES also supports immigrants' workforce integration and provides financial assistance to organizations that serve immigrant communities.

What is a WES Credential Evaluation?

WES evaluates foreign academic credentials by comparing them to the U.S. or Canadian education systems. This allows educational institutions, employers, and immigration officials to make informed decisions about the applicant's qualifications.

In essence, WES translates and validates your academic transcripts, helping you gain recognition for your international education in North America.

Why is a WES Credential Evaluation Report Necessary?

Credential evaluation is crucial because educational systems vary greatly across countries. Only a professional evaluation can accurately translate your degree and transcripts to U.S. or Canadian standards. WES helps validate the authenticity of your qualifications, ensuring that your educational history is recognized in your application to universities, employers, or immigration boards.

Having a WES evaluation report streamlines your application process and enhances your chances for academic and professional success in North America.

How Does a WES Credential Evaluation Report Work?

WES evaluations include the following:
1. Identification and description of credentials
2. Verification of the authenticity of the credentials
3. Inclusion of GPA equivalency in the evaluation
4. Authentication of submitted documents

The evaluation also assesses:
1. Your country's education system
2. The reputation of the institution you attended
3. The curriculum and program content
4. Any specific requirements fulfilled for admission

How to Apply for a WES Credential Evaluation Report?

Follow these steps to apply for a WES report:

  1. Create an account on https://applications.wes.org/createaccount
  2. Choose your desired application type.
  3. Fill out the application form and attach the necessary documents.
  4. Submit the application and receive your WES reference number.

Important Instructions by WES: All documents must include your WES reference number. Documents without this number will not be processed.

How Long Does a WES Credential Evaluation Report Take?

Once WES receives all required documents and fees, the evaluation process typically takes about seven (7) business days. If further verification is needed, it may take longer.

Who Receives the WES Credential Evaluation Report?

The WES evaluation report is sent to the applicant and any institutions or organizations specified as beneficiaries.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about sending transcripts to WES from India.

From the day you place the order to the day WES issues your ECA report typically takes 30–60 working days. The biggest variable is your university's transcript processing time — some universities issue in 1 week, others take 6+ weeks. Apply at least 60 days before you need the report.

No. WES does not accept transcripts sent by the applicant. The documents must come directly from your university or through an authorized service that picks up sealed envelopes from the university and dispatches them to WES.

The total cost is typically ₹22,000–₹30,000 for one degree. This includes the WES application fee (₹16,000–₹22,000), university transcript fee (₹500–₹3,000), and either international courier (₹2,500–₹4,000) or FACTS service fee (₹4,500–₹6,000).

If WES finds an issue — opened envelope, missing document, wrong address — they post the issue in your online account and pause processing. You must request fresh documents from your university and have them re-dispatched. This can add 4–8 weeks to your timeline, which is why first-time accuracy matters.

WES doesn't require an MOI letter for the ECA itself, but Canadian immigration (IRCC) and many universities accept MOI letters in lieu of IELTS/TOEFL. If your degree was taught in English, request an MOI letter from your university — FACTS can obtain it alongside your transcripts.

Yes. If you have a Bachelor's from one university and a Master's from another, FACTS can handle all of them in a single coordinated order, ensuring everything reaches WES in the right packaging with your reference number.

Some universities only mail to Indian addresses. In that case, FACTS receives the sealed envelope from your university and forwards it to WES via tracked international courier — fully compliant with WES's direct-dispatch requirement, since the seal is never broken.

WES ECA reports are valid for 5 years from the date of issue. If your immigration application is delayed beyond 5 years, you'll need a new evaluation.

WES offers a 7-business-day expedited evaluation for an additional fee at their end. However, the bigger time consumers are your university's transcript processing and international shipping — and those can't be expedited by WES. The fastest practical path is to use a service like FACTS that knows exactly which universities respond fastest and how to dispatch immediately upon receipt.

WES Canada (Toronto) is used for Canadian immigration, education, and licensing. WES USA (New York) is used for U.S. university admissions, employment, and licensing. The application process and required documents are nearly identical, but reports are issued separately for each — you cannot use a WES Canada report for a U.S. application or vice versa.
